Chir Chir - Korean Fried Chicken

Whenever I see Korean Fried Chicken, it will remind me of the K. Drama "My Love from the Stars" - Qian Song Yi who loves fried chicken with a beer!

Nelly told me that a famous Korean Fried Chicken restaurant has opened at the basement of 313 Somerset, so we went there for lunch one of the days. Well, I will pronounced it as "Chir Chir" as most of the people would, but the actual pronunciation is "Chi-rei Chi-rei".

We were there early before the long anticipating queue outside the restaurant.

Service was pretty good and friendly, the design of the restaurant was quite cute too.

Menu

The drinks were pretty unique, but since it was still during office hour, no alcohol please.

I noticed something about the cutlery - the fork and a "tongs" so that you could "kiap" the chicken without dirtying your hands. How creative is that!

Nelly and me decided to order a mango salad and a portion of garlicky chicken to share (please note that the garlicky chicken is a whole chicken).

We were amazed at how big portion the mango salad was when it was served. When I took the 1st mouthful, the mango was sweet & refreshing and the salad sauce was pretty yummy too! I fall in love with it!

Here comes the chicken! I really love the garlicky chicken which has very flavorful soy sauce & garlic taste.

The portion was huge for the 2 of us and we could not finish it, so I packed the remaining home for dinner..

I have forgotten the price but we paid around $48.00 for these 2 items inclusive of service charge and GST.

I have also feedback to the restaurant that they should come up with a smaller portion as some people have smaller appetite. :p

Symmetry Cafe

A friend has told me about Symmetry cafe and how good it was for the food and coffee. I told the colleague one afternoon when we were about to go lunch, so he suggested that we head to this cafe for lunch. That's how impromptu we can be. :p

(P.S: I went 2 days in a week, one time for LUNCH on weekday and another time for their BRUNCH on a Saturday).

The bus journey was pretty fast, there was a bus stop opposite the cafe. I love the exterior of the cafe located at the corner of a shophouse, it has a little industrial and run-down look.

The seat area wasn't very big inside, but we were lucky to get tables. I would not want to sit outside under the hot scorching sun. :(

The service was pretty friendly. Here's the LUNCH menu:

Here's some snapshot of the interior of the cafe:

Their menu looks pretty good and I really had a hard time deciding if I want the Portobello & Pork Jowl Croissant ($24) or the Pork Belly ($23). I finally decided on the croissant but I switched my fries to Truffle fries so I have to top up additional $4 and a Cappuccino ($5.50). Reeve ordered the latter, the Pork Belly.

My cappuccino was served first, looks pretty good with the gingerbread man biscuit!

The gingerbread man taking a dip

The croissant was quite huge portion to me and oh my! It is really delicious! I'm not a fan of scrambled egg but this egg tasted more like omelette which I liked so much! The pork jowl was tender and juicy, the croissant was crispy on the outside! The truffles fries are good, though not as good as Kith Cafe in my opinion. Reeve was very happy with his pork belly, it tasted crispy and juicy. I took a piece to try, though it looks a little fattening but the texture of it is simply good!

I had an impromptu brunch date with the gf, so I decided to bring her to this place too. I made reservation first for 10am on a Saturday, there were a little bit of crowd.

Here's the brunch menu:

JQ ordered the Broccolini & Eggs ($21) and Roman Chamomile Tea ($6.50) while I ordered the Big Breakfast ($24) and Latte ($5.50).

I was laughing at JQ upon seeing her food, because she don't take uncooked vegetables and on her plate was mostly vegetables. But it was good too, she took whatever she can eat from her plate. I love the BIG Breakfast, it was so much for me that I tried to cut everything in half for JQ. Oh ya, the coffee at Symmetry is AWESOME! One of the best I ever had before. :)

HangOut Cafe in AMK Estate

I have been to the Burpz Cafe in May this year and it has changed to a new management so fast! It is now known as HangOut Cafe. The design in the cafe has changed tremendously, which is more "camera-themed"?

It was an impromptu trip to this cafe with Ching & David as we were supposed to go Old Airport Road for this dinner but one of the cafe we wanted to go close at 9pm so we changed destination to HangOut cafe instead. It was raining so heavily on that evening too! It kinds of dampen the mood for dinner. :p Therefore, there will be not much photos for this post because I'm lazy that night. All I want was food because we reached the cafe around 7.30pm.

Each of us ordered a main course and a nacho cheese fries ($12) and Hawaiin pizza ($13) to share. For main course, David and me ordered *Piggy Back* ($18) each while Ching ordered *Seafood Spaghetti* ($18). As for drinks, I had Lychee Italian Soda with fruits ($5.50), Ching had her Chamomile Dream tea ($5.50) while David had his usual beer (can't remember if it's Heineken or Hoegarden). :p

The fries and pizza arrived first, I remembered we had to wait quite some time for our main course.

I was never a fan of backribs, but this backribs meat tasted really tender and juicy, I liked it. I only finished the meat and left the fries and greens aside. I was sick of fries by the time I finished the nacho cheese fries! The food here is pretty good, but I can't say so for the price. The price is a little on the high side for a neighbourhood cafe. It cost $90 plus for the 3 of us.There's no GST and Service charge, so the price is quite high in my opinion.

Royal China - Top 3 Dimsum Restaurants in Singapore

I have been neglecting this space for quite some time because I was so so so busy! I went for a short getaway to Bangkok earlier this month, it was such a last minute trip planned 3 weeks ago with Singapore Airlines & Glow Pratunam. I'm glad that I have such a super ON travelling buddy who said OK the moment I asked her!

Thank you girl, travelling has always been so steady with you!

Back to the Dim Sum post, I have been wanting to try Royal China after I heard how good it was. The colleagues went in January this year when I was in Amsterdam, so when they know I wanted to go try the dimsum, they accompanied me there again this time round! I have super nice colleagues :)

The restaurant is located on the 3rd level of Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade.

I fall in love with the Tiffany blue deco at first sight with the calming Chinese song in the background! It was raining and I was so hungry, all I had in mind was Liu Sha Bao!

I think we ordered a number of dimsum which we liked, Liu Sha Bao is a MUST for me to those who know me well. :)

After seeing the above photos, I'm drooling now! I really really loveeeee the Liu Sha Bao so much, it won Taste Paradise both hands down. There's mango in the Liu Sha Bao but you can't really feel that strong taste, it mingles well with the custard. Another thing to praise is the Cheong Fun - it is stir-fried instead of the usual steamed type. It is pretty unique but it tastes really good! For the Har Gao, I'm not a fan usually because I don't like Har Gao skin which are too thick. The ones at Royal China were really good & tasty, skin is just nice with the freshness of the prawn filling inside. Yum yum! The 3 of us finished all the dimsum ordered! There were still room for desserts, I ordered the Mango Pomelo which was too sweet to my liking. :( Gab's dessert taste pretty good and refreshing, I can't remember the name but I know there's apple, aloe vera if I'm not wrong.

I can't remember the price, but we paid less than $30 per pax for 3 of us. I really love the dimsum here and would love ot bring my family to try one day. :)
