49seats @ Bugis Plus

This is an outdated post since July and I thought I better penned it down first in case I forgot about it. I happened to chance across this restaurant online and suggested this place to meet up with Jia & Grace.

49seats? I guess they only have 49 seats in the restaurant? This is a small restaurant located on the rooftop of Bugis Plus (Chef Daniel's restaurant used to be at the rooftop too but he has shifted to Chinatown Point).

The exterior looks pretty good but inside is quite small and walking space between seats are quite limited though.

This restaurant has a simple design but looks cozy enough. As Grace will be late, so Jia and me decided to order Cheese fries ($7.90) and the soup of the day (mushroom soup) + drink set ($4.90) first.

Each person will have to order a main course if you want to order the soup + drink set, so we told the staff we will order the main course later.

The soup taste pretty good, quite flavorful but a little salty. The cheese fries was good too, with plenty of cheesy sauce but we still can't finish it.

After Grace arrived, we placed our order for the main course. Jia and me decided to try their famous Tom Yum Seafood Pasta ($14.90) and Grace tried the Creamy Smoke Duck Pasta ($14.90). I think the Tom Yum pasta was a little overrated? My verdict is I don't like it, it does taste sour & spicy but a little too creamy and I get sick of it after a few mouthfuls, I did not finish it. The Creamy Smoke Duck pasta was not bad but also too creamy.

It was a good meetup with the girls and there were always so much topics to talk about! I'm really grateful for this friendship which I will always treasure them :D

Fyi, there's no service charge & GST at 49seats!

Symmetry Cafe

A friend has told me about Symmetry cafe and how good it was for the food and coffee. I told the colleague one afternoon when we were about to go lunch, so he suggested that we head to this cafe for lunch. That's how impromptu we can be. :p

(P.S: I went 2 days in a week, one time for LUNCH on weekday and another time for their BRUNCH on a Saturday).

The bus journey was pretty fast, there was a bus stop opposite the cafe. I love the exterior of the cafe located at the corner of a shophouse, it has a little industrial and run-down look.

The seat area wasn't very big inside, but we were lucky to get tables. I would not want to sit outside under the hot scorching sun. :(

The service was pretty friendly. Here's the LUNCH menu:

Here's some snapshot of the interior of the cafe:

Their menu looks pretty good and I really had a hard time deciding if I want the Portobello & Pork Jowl Croissant ($24) or the Pork Belly ($23). I finally decided on the croissant but I switched my fries to Truffle fries so I have to top up additional $4 and a Cappuccino ($5.50). Reeve ordered the latter, the Pork Belly.

My cappuccino was served first, looks pretty good with the gingerbread man biscuit!

The croissant was quite huge portion to me and oh my! It is really delicious! I'm not a fan of scrambled egg but this egg tasted more like omelette which I liked so much! The pork jowl was tender and juicy, the croissant was crispy on the outside! The truffles fries are good, though not as good as Kith Cafe in my opinion. Reeve was very happy with his pork belly, it tasted crispy and juicy. I took a piece to try, though it looks a little fattening but the texture of it is simply good!

I had an impromptu brunch date with the gf, so I decided to bring her to this place too. I made reservation first for 10am on a Saturday, there were a little bit of crowd.

Here's the brunch menu:

JQ ordered the Broccolini & Eggs ($21) and Roman Chamomile Tea ($6.50) while I ordered the Big Breakfast ($24) and Latte ($5.50).

I was laughing at JQ upon seeing her food, because she don't take uncooked vegetables and on her plate was mostly vegetables. But it was good too, she took whatever she can eat from her plate. I love the BIG Breakfast, it was so much for me that I tried to cut everything in half for JQ. Oh ya, the coffee at Symmetry is AWESOME! One of the best I ever had before. :)

The King Louis Grill and Bar

It's a yearly birthday dinner affair with the secondary school BFFs, and most of the time they suggested Vivo City.

We filter out few restaurants and finally decided on The King Louis Grill and Bar since we have not tried it before.

I make reservation for 3 but I was a little late on that evening as I have been tied up with work. I had a hard time trying to locate this restaurant on the rooftop level of Vivo City. It was hidden in one corner where Daiso is located at.

The girls had already arrived and were seated long ago. I feel so bad letting them wait for me. The environment was quite quiet and we had a good view of RWS.

We noticed that the meat portion was quite huge but they have a promotion that you get one free main course with every 2 main courses ordered. So we ordered 2 meat dishes and 1 pasta. We ordered BBQ Chicken Pullet ($21.50), Provencal Porkloin ($25.50) and Princes Charles Seafood Aglio Olio ($25.90). We also ordered The Castle BBQ Wings ($13.50) and Signature Mushroom Soup ($9.50) to share. Nalyn ordered an Apple Juice, while JQ and me ordered Root Beer respectively.

The food arrived pretty fast but the items looked quite dry.

I think from the texture, I can kind of define the taste already. :) The pork chop was quite tough for me to cut and difficult to chew. The Seafood Agli Olio was still alright. As for the Chicken Pullet, the chicken meat is kind of dry too. I'm overall disappointed in the food. It seems as if the meat was cooked quite some time, left it aside and when customer placed their orders, it was being re-heated thus the dry texture. The most satisfying dish was the Mushroom Soup - creamy with generous bits of mushroom in it.

So as usual, when girls meet up, we will definitely talked and gossip! Haha :p Then out of a sudden, the restaurant staffs suddenly take a slice of cake/pudding and walk towards me singing birthday song. I was so surprised and I admit I nearly cried! To be honest, it's not easy to give me surprise because I can guess it easily. This really caught me! I was kind of emotional at that instance because so much stuffs happened past one year and I feel so loved by these friend I have.

To make me more emotional, JQ got me a Pandora Charm gift and Nalyn got me the Chomel Earring. These are my favorite accessories, I really am surprised, happy but also felt guilty they spent so much on me. Even though I do not have the love of rs, I still have the love of my friends. :)

Thanks Nalyn for the dinner treat! I was very honest to feedback to the staff that the meat was quite dry and wasn't tasty. The service of the staffs were awesome so it did make up the minus points of the food.

Thank you ladies for the yearly dinner and the surprise you have given me. I really appreciate both of you! Cheers to many more years of friendship!
